The Shared Economy I

This week’s show is dives into the shared economy, a growing concept that allows owners to rent out things that they are not using, such as a car, house or bicycle. The concept of collaborative consumption is growing and becoming popular through avenues such as Air BnB, a site that allows travelers to rent a room or an entire home from its owner. Our expert guests guide us through the policy and social opportunities and challenges of shared economies.

Lucy Gao, our first guest, is the global curator for Canada at Collaborative Consumption.com.  Her recent works include working on creating a Toronto sharing network that connects all the organizations and businesses that  are involved in the shared economy.

Lars Boggild and Tristan Cleveland, board members of the Halifax Tool Library, join us from Nova Scotia.

Our final guest is April Rinne, a lawyer and the Chief Strategy Officer at Collaborative Lab. She has experience at a consulting company founded by Rachel Botsman, and is author of What’s Mine is Yours: The Rise of Collaborative Consumption. Working alongside companies, governments and entrepreneurs across the world, April seeks to create a more sustainable and efficient future.
