The twin economic and health crises have rollbacked gender equality in Canada and around the world. Women, particularly those with children, as well as those who are racialized, and/or low-income have come to bear the brunt of the global pandemic and recession. Today we have incredibly knowledgeable and distinguished experts to help us understand these issues.

Ariane Hegewisch is Program Director of Employment and Earnings at the Institute for Women’s Policy Research and Scholar in Residence at American University. Ariane is responsible for the Institute for Women’s Policy Research research on workplace discrimination and is a specialist in comparative human resource management, with a focus on policies and legislative approaches to facilitate greater work life reconciliation and gender equality, in the US and internationally. 

Dr. Marina Adshade is Assistant Professor of Teaching at the Vancouver School of Economics. She is one of Canada’s foremost economic experts on the role of women in society with a focus on women’s health, safety, and contribution to the economy through employment and unpaid care work.

Dr. Sarah Kaplan is Director, Institute for Gender and the Economy,  Distinguished Professor of Gender & the Economy and Professor of Strategic Management at Rotman. She is a co-author of the bestselling business book, Creative Destruction, as well as, Survive and Thrive: Winning Against Strategic Threats to Your Business. Her latest book is called The 360° Corporation: From Stakeholder Trade-offs to Transformation. Dr. Kaplan’s current work focuses on applying an innovation lens to understanding the challenges for achieving gender equality.

Katherine Goldstein is the creator and host of the critically acclaimed reported podcast, The Double Shift. Katherine is an award-winning journalist and media entrepreneur and has been extensively quoted as an expert in issues facing working mothers in the NYTimes, Washington Post, The Atlantic, and on WNYC and NPR.
